In England, Henry VII defeated the last monarch of the House of York in 1485, ushering in the Tudor dynasty. The ruling dynasties of both countries, the Habsburgs (also spelled Hapsburgs) and the Tudors, had their roots in the 15th century. Two countries dominated Europe during the 16th century - Spain and its emerging rival, England.
